A New Finish

With the newest set of wine bottle stoppers, I thought I would try out a new finishing technique. Rather than going with the gloss polyurethane, I'm applying two coats of tung oil followed by a buffed paste wax. Here's an example of a finished stopper.

Thoughts?

I have been feeling the need to explore new finishes myself. I am using polyurethane on a project right now, but I believe it to be the most practical finish.

As far as the visual perspective, your tung oil/wax finish looks great. I don't drink much wine (I don't guess there is a need for a beer stopper), so I am can't comment on the practical nature of the finish.

It is handsome though.

Thank you Jeff.

From all the reading I've done on a Tung Oil and wax finish, there should be solid water resistance in these stoppers... but time will tell for sure!
